WORKSHOPS - AT HOME AND ABROAD

THREE-DAY WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP, SEDONA, ARIZONA. September 6, 7, 8, 2008. This three-day watercolor workshop is open to all levels from beginner to advanced. I will do two demos a day, showing how I paint on dry 300 lb Arches watercolor paper, layering and glazing with transparent pigment. On the last day, we will spend time working in opaque watercolor. Students will paint in the classroom for several hours each day while I spend individual time with each person. I will demonstrate how I stretch watercolor paper. Class time will be spent discussing the practical side of 'becoming an artist', which includes the all important ATTITUDE, framing, pricing, marketing, commissions, etc. If you are interested in more information about this workshop, including COST, please call Sedona Arts Center (928) 282-3809 / (888) 954-4442,or email to: workshops@sedonaartscenter.com

Workshop Supply List:
Following is a list of supplies recommended for my workshops. I don’t expect you to buy everything on the list, providing you have at least 4 or 5 tubes of paint, 3 brushes (sm. med. lg.,) ARCHES paper and a large water bucket. You may like to buy the colors marked with an asterisk. If you currently use 140 lb paper, bring a sheet of 300 lb paper too.

Paper: 140 LB or 300LB Arches/cold press NO STUDENT GRADE PAPER PLEASE! Brushes: Robert Simmons round, series 785, #4, #8 and either a large round #14 or #16 or a 1”Flat (any brand)

Palette: John Pike watercolor palette or similar

Drawing Board: Bring a drawing board to tape your paper to. A piece of plexi glass, masonite or plywood is an inexpensive subsitute.

Colors : Aureolin, *New Gamboge, *Raw Sienna, *Permanent Alizarin Crimson, *Permanent Rose. Pthalo Green (green or blue shade is fine), Olive Green, Sap Green, Viridian, * Cobalt Blue, *French Ultramarine Blue, *Burnt Siena or Quinacridone Sienna (Daniel Smith). Brands? Winsor Newton, DaVinci, Holbein. Steer away from student grades of paint such as Winton or Grumbacher. Opaque white: There are several brands that will work. My favorite is Pelikan Graphic White, available online. Winsor Newton Permanent White Gouache is a good substitute.

MISCELLANEOUS: A gallon-sized water bucket.. If you're coming from out of town, just buy a gallon bottle of drinking water and cut the top off. Paper towels, single edge razor blade, kneaded or ‘Magic Rub’ eraser, 2H pencil, tracing paper, masking tape, salt.
