Newsletter--March 23 2008.

After painting in watercolor for 32 years, I am now painting exclusively in oil. The change came about when I fell and broke my right wrist two years ago. By the time my wrist healed, I was a convert and have not gone back to watercolor. I love working in oil and it has also freed me from the tedious hours spent in the frame shop, cutting matts and glass. In the days of the French Impressionists, artists with classic training spent the first years working in watercolor before they were allowed to work in oil. My apprenticeship in watercolor is finished.

This year, I've already traveled to the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, South Carolina, followed by NatureWorks in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At this year's show in Tulsa, I was awarded 'Best of Show - Two Dimensional' for my 36" square oil, 'In the Wind.'

Now I'm back in the studio, painting for gallery inventory and preparing work for REFLECTIONS OF NATURE in Fallbrook, California, the first weekend in May. In addition to income taxes, two important deadlines are right around the corner....BIRDS IN ART and THE SOCIETY OF ANIMAL ARTISTS (annual exhibition). BIRDS IN ART is an annual international exhibition of bird art held at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin. From over 1000 entries, fewer than 100 are accepted. I am honored to have had my work exhibited at BIRDS IN ART for 15 years. I'm hoping 2008 will be the 16th year. 2007's entry, GREEN WITH ENVY was purchased by the museum for their permanent collection and is the second painting the museum has purchased from me.

I have not scheduled any workshops, international or domestic as I am taking a hiatus from teaching in order to spend more time painting.

Many of my artist friends have started their own blogs. I have followed suit. I like the idea of blogging. It is an informal way of showing work in various stages of completion, almost like a diary. When I'm at home working in the studio, I'll try to post new entries almost daily.

Check out a new page on my website. LAST CHANCE is where I will post gallery quality paintings that I'm offering at a much lower price. Many will be watercolors, some will be oils done on location - and the majority will be unframed. These paintings are of subject matter that I no longer paint or don't have a market for (such as pieces done on location in Europe). I will only post six at a time. As these sell I will replace them with other images.....so keep checking back!

If you would like to receive my email newsletter, please email me at the address below. Best wishes, Adele P.S. I hope you enjoy my web site, which, by the way, was designed by my 85 year old author Dad. (Olivia, The Radio Man, In the Bonds of Love published in New Zealand by Hazard Press) And since I'm on the subject of family, visit my illustrator son, Shane Rebenschied, at  Shane, blot.com.  He has written three books, including "Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 Hands-on-Training," by lynda.com/books and Peachpit Press.   Do you need high-speed wireless internet in Northern Arizona?
